Canadian Choice: Genesis G80 and GV70 Win Big in Electric Vehicle Showdown

globalautonews Views

Electrified models of Genesis brand (from now on Genesis) have risen to the top in the Canadian automobile market.

Genesis announced on the 16th that the G80 electrified full-size sedan model was selected as the ‘2024 Canadian Electric Car of the Year and the GV70 electrified mid-size SUV model as the 2024 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle of the Year at the Canadian International Auto Show held in Toronto, Canada.

The Canadian Car of the Year is the most prestigious award given by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, selected through the evaluation and voting of a jury composed of 48 local automotive experts and journalists in Canada.

This year’s Canadian Car of the Year announced a total of four categories: passenger vehicle, utility vehicle, electric passenger vehicle, and electric utility vehicle, and Genesis was selected in the electric passenger car and electric utility vehicle categories, achieving the feat of winning all-electric vehicle categories.

Earlier this year, the Canadian Automobile Journalists Association announced three final candidates in each electric passenger vehicle and electric utility vehicle category, and the G80 electrified model and GV70 electrified model were finally selected after a fierce battle.

In particular, the 2024 Canadian Electric Utility Vehicle category included a total of three models from Hyundai Motor Group, including the Genesis’s GV70 electrified model, Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5, and Kia’s EV9, proving their high product competitiveness.

The Canadian jury recognized the G80 electrified model as an electric vehicle with an elegant exterior, well-organized interior, and stable driving performance. It evaluated the GV70 electrified model as having notable value for its high-quality, quiet, and powerful driving performance.

Moreover, the GV70 electrified model was also recognized for its product value and quality by Canadian consumers by being selected in the over $65,000 electric SUV category of the 2024 Best Residual Value hosted by Canadian Black Book, the Canadian automotive industry trend analysis company.

A Genesis official said, “The simultaneous award of the G80 electrified model and GV70 electrified model is an achievement that recognizes the excellent product quality of Genesis electrified models, and with this award, we will not only lead sales in the Canadian automobile market but also continue to perform well in the global market.”
