Woman’s Routine Lash Appointment Uncovers Basal Cell Carcinoma

tenbizt Views

A woman who discovered a small spot under her eye was shocked to receive a diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma.

According to The Sun on May 22, the woman noticed a small mole under her eye when she went to get eyelash extensions. The woman was told there was a small mole under her eyelash line, but she didn’t pay much attention to it.

She had the spot examined without concern, and the optometrist prescribed ointment, thinking it was a blocked tear duct. In March 2023, the woman’s eye became increasingly red and inflamed. She visited the emergency room, but the doctors couldn’t identify the exact cause.

In October of the same year, during a skin examination, the doctor took the woman’s eye condition seriously and recommended a plastic surgeon. The plastic surgeon informed her that she had cancer, and a biopsy confirmed it was basal cell carcinoma.

On May 8 of this year, the woman had skin removed from the cancerous area of her lower eyelid, and she is scheduled for her final surgery on May 29. The woman said, “Skin cancer is linked to UV protection. I never thought this would happen to me. Regular skin exams are necessary.” She hopes her experience can serve as a lesson to others.
