North Korea called for continued loyalty to leader Kim Jong-un as it marked the 31st anniversary of the death of his grandfather and state founder Kim Il-sung, according to state media Wednesday.

“Everyone should join in advancing the dignity and might of our invincible state, the great Korea of Kim Jong-un, by upholding the party’s revolutionary ideology as the highest priority and dedicating themselves to the struggle for the prosperity of our-style socialism,”

the Rodong Sinmun, North Korea’s official newspaper, reported. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun at midnight on July 8 to pay his respects on the 31st anniversary of the death of his grandfather, Kim Il-sung, state-run Korean Central Television (KCTV) reported on Monday. (Yonhap)]The newspaper emphasized that the country’s defense capabilities are advancing significantly beyond previous limits. This development, it claimed, lends credence to the party’s vision of transforming North Korea into the most powerful and prosperous nation.

The report coincided with North Korea’s observance on Tuesday of the 31st anniversary of Kim Il-sung’s death, which occurred on July 8, 1994.

On the day of the anniversary, Kim Jong-un visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the family mausoleum, where he paid tribute to the late state founder. He was accompanied by key party officials during this solemn occasion.

The Korean Central News Agency also reported Wednesday that North Koreans across the country mourned the state founder with the utmost solemnity.

Flags were lowered to half-staff nationwide as mourners visited the mausoleum in Pyongyang where Kim Il-sung’s body lies in state. Many also paid their respects at his statue on Mansudae Hill in the capital. The KCNA noted that various commemorative events were held to honor his achievements. (Yonhap)
