A worker drinks water during a press conference held by the construction workers’ union addressing the dangers of extreme heat.
The KMA warns that the heat waves will worsen through the weekend, with nighttime temperatures remaining high. This is due to the nation being blanketed by a double layer of high pressure. The combination of the North Pacific and Tibetan highs, along with hot and humid southeasterly winds that have been sweeping the peninsula for the past week, is contributing to these extreme conditions.
These southeasterly winds are expected to intensify further, influenced by a typhoon currently moving northwest in the waters southeast of Shanghai, China, according to the KMA.
On Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to reach a scorching 38°C (100.4°F) in Daejeon, a city in central South Korea. Both Seoul and Daegu, a southeastern city, will see highs of 36°C (96.8°F), the agency reports. (Yonhap)
