HD Hyundai to showcase next-gen shipbuilding tech at APEC summit

(HD Hyundai)HD Hyundai said Tuesday it is set to highlight its advanced shipbuilding technology and explore opportunities for global cooperation at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.

The company will host “Future Tech Forum: Shipbuilding” in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, as part of side events under the APEC CEO Summit. Running from Oct. 27 to 30, HD Hyundai will open the series as the first participating company and will also serve as an official sponsor of the APEC CEO Summit.

Under the theme “Shaping the Future of Shipbuilding,” industry experts will discuss pathways for technological innovation and sustainable development in the global shipbuilding industry.

Chung Ki-sun, who was recently promoted to chair of HD Hyundai, will deliver the keynote speech, presenting the company’s latest advances in artificial intelligence, decarbonization solutions and manufacturing innovation. Chung is also expected to outline HD Hyundai’s vision for expanding global alliances in the defense and shipbuilding sectors.

Key figures from HD Hyundai’s global partners — including Huntington Ingalls Industries, Anduril, the American Bureau of Shipping, Siemens and Persona AI — will join as speakers.

Forum sessions will cover topics such as new era of maritime defense, the present and future of shipbuilding, AI-driven innovation in shipyard manufacturing and Korea-US strategic sooperation in shipbuilding. Participants will discuss strategies to accelerate innovation and strengthen global partnerships across the industry.

“This forum will serve as a meaningful platform to explore collaborative solutions for the challenges faced by the shipbuilding sector and to share visions for its future,” an HD Hyundai official said. “As a major player in the global shipbuilding industry, HD Hyundai will continue to lead the market.”

In addition, HD Hyundai will operate a shipbuilding and offshore booth within the APEC K-Wave and Future Industry Exhibition, organized by KOTRA through Nov. 22. It will feature demonstrations of autonomous navigation technology developed by HD Hyundai’s subsidiary Avikus, alongside displays of AI welding robots and a next-generation nuclear-powered ship model.
