Record-Breaking Rainfall in Dubai Leads to Flooded High End Cars

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), is famous for its abundance of supercars and luxury cars. The aftereffects of the record-breaking heavy rain that fell in Dubai on April 16 (local time) continue. A maximum of 250 mm of rainfall was recorded until April 17, nearly two years of rainfall in Dubai.

As a result, puddles of water remain in various places, and it is known that damaged sites have not been repaired. In particular, as supercars are used daily in Dubai, it is regrettable to see many cases where they failed to avoid flooding.

$366,327 Rolls-Royce unable to escape flood

Many photos of flooded supercars in Dubai were recently posted on online car communities, including Autogespot, attracting attention. If heavy rain is predicted, you should park in advance at an elevated area or high-rise parking lot, but there appears to be no time to deal with the unexpected rain pouring down quickly. In particular, as many supercar owners own multiple vehicles, moving all of them may have been difficult.

Dawn, a Rolls-Royce two-door convertible model, boasts a starting price of 519 million won ($ 380,247) in the South Korean market. Customers who use Bespoke, a custom manufacturing service, can get a final estimate beyond their imagination. Even entry-level Ferrari and Lamborghini supercars with price tags of hundreds of millions of won and limited edition models sold for over 1 billion won ($ 732,654) could not avoid natural disasters.

Mid-engine supercars with low ground clearance suffer more severe flood damage.

Mid-engine supercars such as Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari 488 are prone to flood damage. Their ground clearance is low, and critical components such as the engine and cooling system are placed as low as possible to ensure athletic performance. If the vehicle is completely flooded, maintenance close to restoration is required, including cleaning the interior materials, wiring and powertrain, and replacing parts.

In this case, the repair estimate is equivalent to the price of a new vehicle, so it is not uncommon for the car to be handed over at a low cost. Flooded vehicles purchased this way are often listed for sale at a lower cost than the market price after minimal repairs are made to only the visible parts. The problem is that quite a few sellers sell products while hiding the flooding history. Although it is unlikely that these things will flow to South Korea, customers should be wary of flooded used cars around July and August when heavy rain falls in South Korea as well.

Hypercar narrowly escapes flooding

A limited edition supercar escaping from a flooded road was also captured, attracting attention. Fortunately, the water level is low, and there does not seem to be any significant problems with driving. This supercar is the flagship model Utopia of Pagani, a representative hypercar brand with Bugatti and Koenigsegg. The introductory price is $2.19 million, and only 99 limited edition units were produced.
