MrBeast the individual YouTuber with the most subscribers in the world has turned down a proposal from Elon Musk to post videos on X (formerly Twitter), citing the platform’s difficulty in generating revenue.

On the 31st of last month (local time), MrBeast posted a video titled “I Spent 7 Days in Solitude” on YouTube, then tweeted on his X account, “I posted a video. If you don’t see it, I’ll dropkick you.” In response to this post, the UX/UI designer of Dogecoin replied “Please post it here (X) too,” to which Elon Musk also agreed commenting “Yeah.”

MrBeast stated, “My videos cost millions of dollars to produce. Even if I achieve 1 billion views on X, I won’t be able to recoup even a fraction of the production costs.” However, he added, “If it becomes genuinely possible to generate revenue, I’m considering giving X a try.”

In reality, it is known that X makes it harder for individual users to generate income compared to YouTube. According to the New York Post, an account on X with 370,000 followers is estimated to earn about $7 (about 9,000 KRW) per 1 million views. In contrast, the income per view on YouTube is much higher. According to Yahoo Finance, a qualified YouTube creator can generate an income of $3,400 to $30,000 (about 4.39 million to 38.77 million KRW) per 1 million views.

This is the second time MrBeast has turned down Musk’s proposal. In June last year, Musk responded to MrBeast’s tweet announcing a new video by saying, “Please also post it on this platform (X). The revenue per view should be comparable to YouTube. If not, I’ll adjust it.”
