Former Intelligence Chief’s Home Raided in Martial Law Investigation

A special counsel team on Wednesday launched a raid on the home of former National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong as part of its investigation into former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s attempt to impose martial law.

The team, led by special counsel Cho Eun-suk, also raided seven other locations in connection with the alleged destruction of evidence following the December insurrection attempt, according to assistant special counsel Park Ji-young.

Investigators suspect the former NIS director of aiding in the deletion of records from secure phones used by Yoon and former NIS deputy director Hong Jang-won after the failed martial law bid.

The special counsel team has instructed the Seoul Detention Center, where Yoon is currently held, to prohibit all visitations except those by family members and lawyers until formal charges are brought against the former president.

Yoon’s legal team issued a statement to the press, confirming that a planned Wednesday visit by Morse Tan, a Korean American professor who has defended the former president’s martial law declaration, was canceled.
