Lee Jung Jae’s Journey from Gambler to Jedi

TV Report Views

Actor Lee Jung Jae’s story behind how he got cast on the Disney+ series The Acolyte is attracting attention.

The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Lee on June 4 and revealed that Lee’s performance in Netflix’s Squid Game is why he was cast on The Acolyte.

The Acolyte director Leslye Headland reportedly thought of The Acolyte’s character Master Sol after watching Lee’s performance in Squid Game. Sol is one of the masters of the Jedi Order active during the late Old Republic era, the heyday of the Galactic Republic.

Lee explained, “I was quite surprised. The two characters seem so different. I was curious about what made her feel that way.”

Lee continued that both characters he played in Squid Game and The Acolyte live harmoniously with other people. He said, “I think I’ve embodied kindness and a desire to help others.” He interpreted that Headland was inspired by his warm performance in Squid Game.

In Squid Game, Lee played the role of Seong Gi Hun, a gambling addict who, despite his addiction, showed a heart full of paternal love as he participated in a survival death game for his daughter and elderly mother. Many fans are now curious about what kind of character Lee will portray in The Acolyte.

The Acolyte is a live-action drama series that continues the legacy of Star Wars. It tells the story of an unprecedented series of Jedi murders, the secrets and truths hidden behind them, and the emerging forces of darkness. The 8-part series premiered the first and second episodes on Disney+ at 10 PM on June 5.
