A female CEO with the highest level of compensation in the UK has emerged.

On the 9th, the British Financial Times reported that “Denise Coates, CEO of Bet365, became one of the highest earning CEOs in the world last year, receiving a compensation of 300 million GBP (approximately 500 billion KRW).”

Coates earns 221 million GBP (approximately 3,695 billion KRW) in annual salary, and at least 50 million GBP (approximately 836 billion KRW) as her dividend. The total compensation is 271 million GBP (approximately 4,532 billion KRW).

This is the highest level in the UK and still high even when compared to US corporate CEOs. Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, which operates Google, had a total compensation of 226 million USD (approximately 2,961 billion KRW) last year.

Bet365 is a legal gambling company that mainly provides sports betting. It has expanded its business beyond the UK to the US and Canada.

Although it is classified as a legal gambling service, it is constantly criticized in the UK because it makes money from ‘gambling’.

Nevertheless, most people in the UK acknowledge her as a diligent taxpayer. The UK imposes a 45% tax on salaries and a 40% tax on dividends for high-income earners like Coates.

Netizens reacted with comments like, “Don’t they know that people are living comfortably with the taxes she pays from the money she makes from legal gambling?”,”We should consider sports gambling as a legitimate industry”,”If I earned as much as her, I could pay more taxes”, and “I’m jealous”.

Meanwhile, Bet365 was founded by Denise Coates’ father, Peter Coates. Peter Coates is a successful businessman who has donated to various charities and was appointed as the chairman of Stoke City FC in 2012.
