The foreign media outlet Daily SPA! published an interview with Kaoru, a current businesswoman and former adult film actress, on June 17; in the interview, Kaoru recalled her time as an actress and detailed the reasons behind her decision to enter the adult film industry.
“I was active for about two years and then retired. I received many proposals from various companies to shoot a retirement project. Some companies offered me 5 million yen (approximately $30,000), but I rejected all of them,” she shared.
Explaining why she declined the offer of 5 million yen, she said, “At the time, I underestimated my life. Looking back now, earning 5 million yen is not an ordinary thing. I should have postponed my retirement and negotiated my pay,”
She also revealed why she started acting in adult films by confessing, “Honestly, I did it to survive. I wanted to make money. Before my debut, I worked part-time at a fast-food restaurant and modeled. I had no hesitation in becoming an adult film actress because I had modeling experience.”
Currently operating a bar in Shinjuku, Tokyo for 12 years, she shared, “Many movie industry professionals and artists like painters come to the bar I run. I feel like I’m learning when I see them,” expressing satisfaction with her current life.
Kaoru, who received considerable attention after her debut in 2002, announced her retirement in 2004, just two years later.
After her retirement, she changed her stage name to Ai Kanade and appeared in various adult films and video movies, but she is no longer active as an actress.
