NCT member Taeil is currently under investigation following allegations of sexual misconduct.

According to Chosun Ilbo, on August 28, the Seoul Bangbae Police officially registered Taeil as a suspect in a sexual assault case and are conducting an inquiry.

After news of Taeil broke, some speculated whether he had committed sexual assault against a same-sex minor, but a police official responded by refuting the claims.

On the same day, SM Entertainment confirmed through an official statement that Taeil faced allegations related to sexual assault.

As the agency gathered more information, the agency recognized the severity of the incident and terminated Taeil’s contract to participate in any NCT-related activities.

“After discussing with Taeil, we decided he would withdraw from the group. We will provide further updates based on the progress of the investigation,” SM Entertainment announced. Taeil is currently fully cooperating with the investigation.

“We sincerely apologize for the trouble caused by our artist,” the agency regretfully expressed.

Taeil debuted in 2016 as the main vocalist of NCT. He has participated in NCT subunits NCT U and NCT 127. Last August, his activities were suspended after he suffered an injury in a motorcycle accident while going home from work. He returned with NCT 127’s sixth studio album, WALK, and recently attended and interacted with fans at the NCT 127 8th ANNIVERSARY FANMEETING <8ECRET INVITATION>.
