The preview for the 9th episode of the tvN drama Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born has been released, featuring a shocking scene where Kang So Bok (played by Ra Mi Ran) slaps Yoon Jeong Nyeon (played by Kim Tae Ri).

Released on Sunday, the preview shows Jeong Nyeon, who has been pushing herself to the brink to perfect her vocal skills for a major performance with a national opera troupe. Her intense practice takes a severe toll on her health, leading to the devastating diagnosis that she must give up singing. This news throws Jeong Nyeon into a whirlwind of confusion and despair.

After her doctor advises her to abandon her voice, Jeong Nyeon is overwhelmed by shock and frustration. She lashes out in a moment of rebellion, prompting So Bok to slap her to bring her back to reality, exclaiming, “Please, get a grip.” Jeong Nyeon, desperate and on the verge of tears, pleads, “What do I have to do to sing again?” This emotionally charged exchange adds to the suspense surrounding the storyline’s future.

The previous episode started with Jeong Nyeon reeling from the blow of her friend Hong Joo Ran (played by Woo Da Vi) choosing Heo Yeong Seo (played by Shin Ye Eun) over her for an audition. With malicious intent, Seo Hye Rang (played by Kim Yoon Hye) offers helpful advice: “Jeong Nyeon, you’re still not on Yeong Seo’s level. But don’t be too discouraged. You have an amazing voice. This role of Ondal is difficult, so focus on your singing.”

Hye Rang doesn’t stop there, pushing Jeong Nyeon further by suggesting, “There’s a cave up the mountain behind here. Go there, sing facing the walls, and do it hundreds of times a day until you’re coughing up blood. Two weeks of this, and you’ll master your voice!”

Following this extreme advice, Jeong Nyeon practices relentlessly in the cave, pushing her voice beyond its limits. Despite her voice being in terrible condition on audition day, she delivers a raw, desperate performance that leaves a lasting impression. However, the physical toll of her intense practice becomes apparent when she collapses after the performance, coughing up blood and shocking everyone around her.

Meanwhile, Kang So Bok, Jeong Nyeon’s mentor and the director of the Maeran National Theater Troupe, continues to use strict training methods to mold Jeong Nyeon into a true national theater actress. While So Bok’s exterior is tough and unyielding, her actions are motivated by genuine care and support for Jeong Nyeon’s growth.

As Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born continues to gain popularity, viewers are becoming increasingly invested in the evolving, complex relationship between the two characters.
