On the 27th, Chungnam Province held a ‘North Korean Defectors-City and County Officials Communication and Empathy Talk’ at their cultural center.
The event attended by about 30 people including Lee Dong-yu head of the province’s autonomous administration department, provincial and city and county officials, civilian subcontractors, and North Korean defectors, was a time to broaden understanding of North Korean defectors.
The province which has selected ‘Strengthening Support for North Korean Defectors’ as a key task for the 8th elected term plans to promote various support projects next year including lifestyle-oriented economic support, family integration education services, city and county specialized support projects, and perception improvement projects.
The participants exchanged opinions on the effective implementation of support projects and discussed various measures to strengthen support for the settlement of North Korean defectors in the province.
Head Lee said “The stable settlement of North Korean defectors in local communities will be an important foundation for a unified Korean Peninsula in the future,” and added, “We will listen to the voices of North Korean defectors in the province and promote practical and sustainable policies to help them settle well in local communities.”
