The flagship sedan, Genesis G90, has been reborn as a 2024 model. The G90 is the most expensive Korean car, even the base model, without any options exceeding $74,600.

The price for this year’s model change has also slightly increased, with the newly added design-focused G90 Black boasting a starting price in the hundred thousand dollar range. We looked at comparable imported cars that can be purchased for the same price as the full-option G90 Black and the more expensive long-wheelbase full-option variant.

Design-focused Black Edition with full options: $108K

The 2024 G90’s starting price is $71,200, an increase of $710. Ghost door closing and mood curator are a standard. The price increase is reasonable considering the range of product improvements, including the addition of an easy-close system (additional rear door control button), a projection-type reverse guide lamp, and an in-car fire extinguisher.

The G90 Black, which features exclusive black designs on the interior and exterior, starts at $103,000. It operates on a single powertrain with a 3.5L V6 turbo 48V electric supercharger engine and four-wheel drive. Moreover, most common options are standard, so there aren’t many specifications to add. The full-option price is $108,000, and the final quote, including the acquisition tax in Seoul, is $115,300.

Long wheelbase price increase, total cost of $147,000

On the other hand, the long wheelbase variant boasts a nearly insurmountable price range. The starting price is $124,800). Although it has only increased by $45, it remains expensive. Like the Black edition, the G90 long wheelbase also has a single powertrain configuration with an electric supercharger and four-wheel drive, but it has a wider variety of options.

The paid exterior colors and interior materials cost $3660, and the first-class VIP seat (which must include the rear seat comfort package) is $6640. Including all optional items, such as the rear dual monitor and panoramic sunroof, the vehicle price soars to $138,000. The final quote, including the acquisition tax in Seoul, is $147,000, approaching $150,000.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Similar price as the German Big Three

What alternatives are there among imported cars? We looked at the “German Big Three” vehicles, which were considered major competitors. First, the Mercedes Benz S-Class S450d 4Matic costs $119,000, and the S450 4Matic long wheelbase costs $135,900. The S450d 4Matic is more expensive than the G90 Black full-option, but the S450 4Matic long wheelbase can be an alternative to the G90 long wheelbase full-option specification.

The BMW 7 Series 740d, including the xDrive M Sports package, is $111,900, and the 740i is $130,600. Depending on the discount situation, it can be purchased at a similar price to the G90 Black full-option, and it is a reasonable choice even when compared to the long wheelbase specification. Finally, the Audi A8 50 TDI Quattro Black Edition costs $104,800, and the long-wheelbase 55 TFSI Quattro Premium costs $120,000. The long wheelbase 60 TFSI also exists, starting at $142,800. If discounts are applied, it can drop to a level similar to the G90 long wheelbase full-option.
