An 8-year-old boy reportedly developed facial paralysis after turning on the air conditioner.

As the temperature rises every year, people become more reliant on air conditioning. However, they are unaware of the dangers it can cause and often misuse it. When air conditioning is misused, it can cause significant health issues like heat stroke and facial abnormalities.

An 8-year-old boy with facial paralysis and hemiplegia symptoms as a result of an abnormality in his right 7th cranial nerve was one of the cases mentioned by the Red Cross Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

The boy developed symptoms of facial paralysis due to his family setting their air conditioner to low temperatures before they went to sleep, unable to to bear the heat at night.

Medical experts recommend adjusting the air conditioner’s temperature so that it doesn’t feel “too cold” while you sleep and that you should be extra careful of the temperature at night.

They advise setting the air conditioner to 28°C (82.4°F) unless the outside temperature is above 35°C (95°F) to prevent heat shock. The air conditioner should be used at no more than 5 degrees lower than the outside temperature.

To allow the air to circulate and aid your body’s gradual adjustment to the temperature outside, they also advise turning off their air conditioner and opening the door about 30 minutes before leaving the room with the air conditioner on.

The boy’s paralysis reportedly decreased significantly 15 days after treatment.
