President Lee Jae Myung on Tuesday called for bipartisan cooperation to improve citizens’ lives, describing political parties as partners in the pursuit of a better future for the nation.
The President urged both parties to pool their collective wisdom to address the needs of the people.
Lee emphasized that the National Assembly, government, and political parties are all working towards the shared goal of enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
In addition, the President stressed the importance of bolstering South Korea’s defense industry.
Lee highlighted the country’s remarkable progress, noting its transformation from having no tanks during the Korean War (1950-53) to becoming one of the world’s top 10 arms exporters in just 75 years.
“The defense industry is not only a new driver of economic growth but also the backbone of our national security,” Lee stated.
He instructed relevant ministries to create a centralized authority for defense industry development and to hold regular meetings to review arms export strategies.
The President also called for a whole-of-government approach to cultivate skilled professionals, boost research and development efforts, and expand into global markets. (Yonhap)
