Jeon Do-yeon (right) and Park Hae-soo perform in Simon Stone's playFollowing its sensational premiere in Seoul, the Korean production of “The Cherry Orchard” will embark on an international tour this fall, beginning with performances in Hong Kong and Singapore.

The original Seoul cast, led by Cannes-winning Jeon Do-yeon and Park Hae-soo, will reprise their roles, joined by fellow original cast members Sohn Sang-gyu, Choi Hee-seo, Lee Ji-hye, Nam Yun-ho, Yoo Byung-hun, Park Yu-rim, Lee Sae-jun and Lee Ju-won.

This fresh take on Anton Chekhov’s classic, directed by the visionary Simon Stone and produced by LG Arts Center, reimagines the tragicomedy through a contemporary Korean lens. Talk about a hit! During its 2024 debut at LG Arts Center Seoul, the show wowed audiences, drawing in 40,000 theater lovers and boasting a jaw-dropping 95 percent seat occupancy rate.

Mark your calendars! The international tour kicks off September 19-21 at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Center, where it’ll open the Asia+ Festival 2025 with a bang. This festival, curated by Hong Kong’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department, is a must-see showcase of Asia’s hottest traditional and contemporary performing arts.

Can’t make it to Hong Kong? No worries! From November 7-9, catch the production at Singapore’s national performing arts hotspot, Esplanade — Theatres on the Bay, for three unforgettable performances.

Stone, the mastermind behind reinvented classics like Medea and Ibsen House, breathes new life into The Cherry Orchard. He sets this tale of crumbling aristocracy and rising middle class against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving Korea – and trust us, it’s electric!
A scene from Simon Stone's play]“This concept of lightning-fast change – the clash between old and new, the generational tug-of-war, and those wild emotional swings from hope to despair, sometimes in a single breath – it’s rare to find all that in one place,” Stone dished to the press last year.

For him, Korea was the perfect setting to capture all this drama and more.

“We’re talking about a truly global collab here,” gushed Lee Hyun-jung, head of LG Arts Center Seoul. “We’ve got one of the world’s most innovative directors, Korea’s top acting talent, and an all-star creative team including architect Saul Kim and composer Jang Young-gyu. Together, they’ve transformed a century-old Russian play into a living, breathing Korean story that feels totally now.”

But wait, there’s more! This hot ticket is already lined up for the Adelaide Festival in March 2026 and New York’s Park Avenue Armory in September 2026. Stay tuned for even more global tour dates in the works!
