(Yonhap)]Torrential rains exceeding 100 millimeters per hour pounded the west coastal area of South Chungcheong Province, leading to widespread flooding and forcing evacuations, weather authorities reported on Thursday.

Weather officials stated that since Wednesday evening, Seosan, the hardest-hit area in the province, has been drenched with up to 344 mm of rain.

Rising floodwaters have compelled residents to evacuate in other parts of the province, including Yesan and Dangjin.

The heavy downpours have led to the suspension of some railway services in the region.

Train operations have been halted on routes between Seoul and Daejeon, as well as between Cheonan and Iksan.

Fire authorities in South Chungcheong Province have reported 302 instances of rain-related damage in the region as of Thursday. (Yonhap)
