BMW’s Korean division reported Monday that its 7 Series dominated the premium flagship import segment in South Korea during the first half of 2023. The German luxury automaker sold 2,885 units from January to June, marking a substantial 23.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The 740i xDrive emerged as the star performer, accounting for over half of all sales with 1,512 units sold. This represents an impressive 40.8 percent year-on-year growth. Not to be outdone, the diesel variant, 740d xDrive, also showed strong performance with 831 units sold, reflecting a 36.2 percent increase.

BMW’s success wasn’t limited to the 7 Series. The automaker’s entire large luxury lineup, including full-size SUVs like the X7 and XM, as well as the 8 Series coupe and M8 sedan, saw significant growth. In the first six months of 2023, BMW sold 5,776 vehicles in this premium segment, up 21.4 percent from 4,758 units in the previous year.

The X7 SUV, in particular, stood out with sales of 2,421 units, a 21.5 percent year-over-year increase. This strong performance helped BMW solidify its position in the large luxury SUV category, with total SUV sales reaching 2,578 units.

South Korea continues to be a critical market for BMW globally, ranking third in both 7 Series and overall luxury class sales. BMW Korea emphasized that the market’s alignment with the brand’s core values of innovation, luxury, and personalization makes it one of the most strategically important regions worldwide.

A key factor driving BMW’s success in South Korea is the growing demographic of tech-savvy, middle-aged consumers who demand both cutting-edge digital features and sophisticated design. The 7 Series caters to this market with standout features like a 31.3-inch rear display supporting popular streaming platforms such as Netflix and YouTube, as well as HDMI input for external content.

Other notable features include the state-of-the-art 4D Bowers & Wilkins sound system, the Executive Lounge seating package, and Executive Drive Pro for unparalleled ride comfort.

Under its Power of Choice strategy, BMW offers a diverse range of powertrains, including gasoline (740i), diesel (740d), plug-in hybrid (750e xDrive), and fully electric models (i7, i7 M70 xDrive).

To further enhance exclusivity, BMW’s Individual program for top-tier models like the 750e xDrive, i7 xDrive60, and i7 M70 xDrive allows customers to choose from over 22,000 combinations of exterior designs, colors, trim lines, and interior materials.

The BMW Excellence Club, a premium ownership program, plays a crucial role in fostering customer loyalty. It offers unique experiences such as VIP access to the Cannes Film Festival and the Ryder Cup golf tournament. Members also receive priority invitations to BMW-sponsored concerts, events, and the BMW Ladies Championship, South Korea’s only LPGA tournament. The interior of the new BMW 740d xDrive, the diesel variant of the 7 Series (BMW Korea)]

A BMW Korea executive stated that the company remains committed to redefining luxury mobility experiences and reinforcing its leadership in the domestic market through continued focus on tailored benefits and premium services.
