Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc., recently disclosed that he had discussions with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong regarding the specifics of a semiconductor supply agreement.

On Tuesday, Musk responded to a user’s comment on his X account suggesting that Samsung Electronics was unaware of what they had committed to. Musk firmly stated, “They do.”

He elaborated, “I engaged in a video conference with Samsung’s chairman and senior leadership to outline the potential of a genuine partnership.” Musk emphasized that their aim is to leverage the strengths of both companies to achieve exceptional results.

In response to another user’s comment suggesting Samsung was the underdog in chip manufacturing, Musk came to the defense of the South Korean tech giant. He asserted, “Both TSMC and Samsung are outstanding companies. It’s a privilege to collaborate with them.”

Following Samsung Electronics’ announcement of a 22.8 trillion KRW ($16.5 billion) deal to supply AI chips to an unnamed customer, Musk revealed that Tesla was the partner behind this significant contract.

Musk disclosed that Samsung Electronics will produce Tesla’s next-generation AI6 chip at its new semiconductor facility in Texas. He underscored the deal’s importance, stating, “The strategic significance of this agreement cannot be overstated.”

In related news, Samsung Chairman Lee departed for Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. His trip coincides with ongoing trade discussions between South Korea and the United States, with a crucial deadline approaching on Friday.

While Lee did not provide specific details about his U.S. visit, industry insiders expect him to engage in talks about global business cooperation and explore potential new ventures with key partners. (Yonhap)
