Father’s Sexually Assault Daughter’s Friend for Four Years

A 50-year-old driver who sexually assaulted his daughter’s high school friend for several years using his school bus was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

According to the law on the 11th, the Supreme Court’s first division confirmed this sentence for Mr. A (55), who was arrested and indicted on charges of luring a minor, rape, and filming using a camera.

Mr. A has consistently claimed his innocence throughout the trial, saying, “Even if I die, I’m innocent. The victim is acting,” and “I never had sexual intercourse, and the victim asked me to take the pictures first.”

Mr. A is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting Ms. B (24, a high school sophomore at the time) who attended the same school as his daughter for over four years from March 2017 to June 2021. It was reported that Ms. B attended high school using Mr. A’s van.

According to the investigation by the prosecution and police, Mr. A lured Ms. B to his office in an apartment complex in Daejeon in March 2017 by telling her, who was worried about entering university, “I will introduce you to a professor I know.”

However, he immediately changed when Ms. B arrived at the office. He locked the office door and forced her to undress saying, “I need a nude photo to introduce you to the professor,” and filmed her naked body.

Afterward, Mr. A lied to Ms. B, saying, “I need to do a body test,” or threatened her, saying, “If you report to the police, I will distribute your nude photos to your friends.” Mr. A repeatedly sexually assaulted Ms. B in his office, van, and unmanned hotels. His sexual crimes continued for over four years.

Even after Ms. B entered university, the terrible nightmare did not easily end. On February 4, 2022, Mr. A suddenly sent Ms. B her nude photos in the middle of the night.

Ms. B said in her complaint, “At that time, the terrible memory came back to life, and I decided to file a complaint with the courage to think that the nightmare-like life could be repeated.”

Mr. A’s excuse was absurd itself. He denied the charges, saying, “Ms. B learned useless acting while attending the university’s theater and film department.” He denied the sexual assault, saying, “When Ms. B was a high school student, she handed me her mobile phone, took off her clothes herself, and asked me to take a nude photo for her school assignment, so I took one photo, but there was no sexual intercourse.”

Surprisingly, it was reported that Mr. A never properly apologized to Ms. B even once.

When the prosecution presented the record of Mr. A staying in a lodging business for more than an hour and a half based on the timeline of Ms. B’s mobile phone, Mr. A denied the sexual assault to the end, saying, “I went to the motel, but we just talked outside.”

In April of last year, the 11th Criminal Department of the Daejeon District Court pointed out, “Ms. B’s testimony is credible as she remembers even the details that are difficult to know unless she directly experiences them,” and “Mr. A used the fact that he was ‘a friend’s father’ to approach Ms. B and committed the crime for several years, so the crime is very bad. Moreover, Mr. A is damaging Ms. B’s personality and honor with absurd excuses.”

The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison and ordered him to wear an electronic anklet for 20 years and to be restricted from employment in child, youth, and disabled-related organizations for 10 years.

Mr. A immediately appealed, but the appellate court also dismissed the appeal in October of the same year, saying, “Ms. B consistently and meticulously testifies about parts that are difficult to know unless she directly experiences them, such as the shape of Mr. A’s main body parts,” and “Mr. A only saw his friend’s child as a tool to satisfy his sexual desires and did not treat her as a person, raping her 19 times when she was a minor.”
