Son Heung-min, who returned to Tottenham Hotspur from the Qatar Asian Cup, recorded an assist in his comeback match.

On the 11th (Korean time), Son Heung-min assisted Brendan Johnson’s winning goal in the extra time of the second half in a 1-1 draw at the home match of the 24th round of the 2023-2024 Premier League (PL) against Brighton and Hove Albion, held at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, UK. This marks Son’s sixth assist of the season.

Son Heung-min participated in the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup as the South Korean national soccer team captain from the 12th to the 7th of last month. Son, who played without a minute of rest until the semifinals, started the game on the bench that day.

Son Heung-min entered the ground as a substitute in a 1-1 situation in the 17th minute of the second half. Son, who got the ball on the left side in the 6th minute of the extra time, sent a left-footed cross. Brendan Johnson, who rushed towards it, shot inside the box and scored. It was the winning goal that led to Tottenham’s dramatic victory.

In a post-match broadcast interview, Johnson said, “It is really special to score the winning goal. This is a moment that every soccer player dreams of,” and added, “I thought I could show good performance because I replaced a good player like Son Heung-min.”

He continued, “When Son Heung-min gets the ball from the left, he makes unbelievable plays with both feet. Although it was a fast pass, it felt like slow motion. I felt a special feeling when I shot,” expressing his gratitude to Son Heung-min.

Tottenham coach Fosteco Glu praised, “I think Son Heung-min is a world-class player. If you look at Son Heung-min’s record in the Premier League, he has always been at the top.”
