Miracle Escape? 81-Year-Old Driver Survives Porsche Plunge

A rare Porsche, seldom seen on ordinary days, has caught attention after being spotted in a mountain valley. The incident occurred in a region in Germany where an 81-year-old driver crashed his Porsche 993 model off a bridge and into the water.

The elderly driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently hospitalized. However, his vehicle will take considerable time to return to regular operation. The cause of the accident has not been revealed yet, and many are concerned for both the driver and the car. How did such a tragic accident occur?

While driving, the driver lost control and crashed through the bridge’s guardrail, plunging his Porsche 993 Turbo model into the water below. After the crash, the driver was trapped inside the car, waiting for the rescue team. When 26 rescuers and a crane arrived, the vehicle was severely damaged. Most of the car body, except for the driver’s door, was crushed, and the engine is expected to have sustained damage.

It’s particularly heartbreaking, as this is a historic Porsche model. The Porsche 993 is the fourth generation of the 911 model, and it is highly valued as the last 911 equipped with an air-cooled engine. Its significance among Porsche vehicles has kept its used car price from falling, and it’s now a collectible classic car. It’s also the first Porsche equipped with all-wheel drive.

This model, the first Porsche 911 sold in Korea, is currently traded at over $200,000 in Europe and the U.S. Despite the significant damage, the majority believe the vehicle will be restored and made drivable again due to its high value. In a separate incident this week, another Porsche, a 911 GT3 RS, was completely submerged in a river in Washington, U.S.A. Upon hearing the news, Porsche enthusiasts lamented that this week has been a nightmare.

However, it’s fortunate that the driver of the crashed car did not sustain severe injuries and that the river where the accident occurred wasn’t deep. No matter how expensive a classic car may be, it’s not more precious than a human life.
