Everyone is surprised by the level of Chinese vehicles

Chinese automakers have recently increased their influence in the South Korean market through joint ventures with global brands. However, companies such as Geely, Great Wall, and BYD have also taken a strong position in the market with their brands.

Among them, Geely is attracting industry attention by releasing the official image of Galaxy (Geely’s premium brand) E5, a collection of its technologies, on May 7, 2024. The model is known as the Galaxy brand’s first pure electric SUV and is expected to surpass BYD Atto 3 and threaten Tesla with its cost-effective price.

The Geely Galaxy E5 is an electric SUV based on the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) derived from the SEA platform. Geely is well known for its efforts to produce electric vehicles, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids through this platform.

Regarding this platform, Geely said, “GEA is the world’s first 4-in-1 AI intelligent architecture consisting of hardware, system, ecology, and AI.” For the size of the Geely Galaxy E5, it is 4,615 mm (181.7 inches) in length, 1,901 mm (74.8 inches) in width, 1,670 mm (65.7 inches) in height, and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm (108.3 inches). Additionally, it will be equipped with a panoramic sunroof, hidden door handles, and 18/19-inch 5-spoke rims.

Looking at the design, the front part adopts the same design language as the Geely Galaxy E8, including a matrix light, closed grille, sharp headlights, and C-shaped decorative vents at the bottom. The rear has featured a set of famous through-type taillights with a high-mounted brake light and a central wave-shaped lighting element.

The design embraces a minimalist interior. It features a dual-plane steering wheel, head-up display, full LCD instrument cluster, and a large central control screen that integrates the FlyMe Auto operating system powered by the Dragon Eagle-1 7 nm chip. It also features OTA updates, wireless mobile phone charging, front seat heating/ventilation/8-point massage, and a 16-speaker audio system.

2,000 km (1,242 miles) Driving Range Reserved
Can the excellent performance continue in April?

No official powertrain details have been announced, but Geely mentioned that the E5 will use an 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive and Shendun battery and can provide a driving range of 2,000 km (1,242 miles). The company also reported to China’s MIIT a single-motor version of the Galaxy E5 with a maximum output of 160 kW and a lithium iron phosphate battery pack.

The price is expected to start at around $20,693 and reach a maximum of $27,559. The Galaxy E5, which has a significant advantage in price competitiveness, is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2024. Geely, which sold 12,725 units in April 2024, is attracting much attention as to whether it will be able to continue its strong performance with this SUV.
