Controversy Arises Among Consumers Over Design of Changan Automobile’s Nevo E07, Similar to Dodge Charger

China’s Changan Automobile has commenced producing its new extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) SUV, the Nevo E07. The car has generated significant controversy abroad even before its official launch, primarily due to its front design, which resembles the Dodge Charger, leading to accusations of design plagiarism.

Despite the similarities, the Nevo E07 incorporates distinctive features and a unique form. Although it is an SUV, it boasts a versatile tailgate that can be opened to convert the vehicle into a pickup truck. This innovative feature was first introduced in the CD701 concept car, and many of its design elements and functions have been carried over to the production model.

The rectangular headlamp design and the angled air intake shape are applied

Examining the detailed design of the Changan Nevo E07, the front end features a unified structure where horizontal daytime running lights and box-shaped headlamps are seamlessly integrated. The horizontal daytime running lights extend between the headlamps, with portions of the headlamps slightly protruding toward the front fenders. While there are some nuanced design changes to the headlamps and daytime running lights, the overall look remains strikingly similar to that of the Dodge Charger.

The shape of the bumper’s air intake also bears a resemblance. It features a trapezoidal outline that extends sharply toward the sides, with a black garnish accentuating the design. Although the overall form is quite similar, the Nevo E07’s air intake is narrower than the Dodge Charger’s.

Tail lamps are also rectangular
It can be converted into a pickup truck

A rectangular tail lamp similar to the front is placed for the rear. The width of the tail lamp box has increased as much as the body shape has increased, but there is no significant difference from the Dodge Charger’s tail lamp design. A horizontal reflector and a black plastic bumper are applied to the bottom. The tailgate can be opened and closed, allowing conversion to a pickup truck.

In the case of the rear bed space, it can load items with a capacity of 300 kg (661 pounds). The body size of the Nevo E07 is spacious, with a length of 5,045 mm (198.6 inches), a width of 1,996 mm (78.6 inches), and a height of 1,640 mm (64.6 inches), 1,665 mm (65.6 inches), and 1,695 mm (66.7 inches) in three variations. The wheelbase is 3,210 mm (126.4 inches). Changan Automobile plans to launch two variations of the Nevo E07: an electric powertrain and an EREV.

It can drive only 200 km (124 miles) in electric mode and is expected to be around $37,810

EREV Nevo E07 is known to be equipped with CATL’s 39.05 kWh LFP battery pack and can travel up to 200 km (124 miles) in electric mode only (CLTC standard). It is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine that produces a maximum output of 110 horsepower, and an electric motor that produces 310 horsepower is installed in the rear wheel. In the case of dual motor specifications, an electric motor with 176 horsepower is installed in the front wheel.

The Changan Nevo E07 has a double wishbone suspension at the front and an independent aluminum alloy suspension at the rear. It also features air suspension and shock absorbers to improve ride comfort, especially during off-road driving. Inside, the SUV boasts a head-up display and a 15.4-inch infotainment screen. Additionally, a display for second-row passengers is mounted behind the front seats. The price for the EREV Nevo E07 is approximately $37,810.
