Lexus LFR Revealed: Stunning New Supercar That Could Outshine Ferrari and Lamborghini

Lexus has finally unveiled the next-generation supercar, the LFR, following in the footsteps of the LFA
This marks a significant moment for the brand

The Japanese Lexus brand has a long history of making supercars. The LFA had a reasonably decent design and a V10 4.8-liter engine that produced 553 horsepower. It performed similarly to the Lamborghini Gallardo that was on sale at the time. MIthad has the unique characteristic of producing a sharp engine that sounds like an F1 machine because it was equipped with an engine from Yamaha, which produced F1 engines. It sold 500 units in just two years, from 2010 to 2012.

Over a decade later, Lexus is set to reenter the supercar scene. In 2022, the brand, under the Toyota umbrella, trademarked LFR. Recently, in August 2024, a mysterious high-performance coupe was spotted undergoing tests at the Toyota-owned Fuji Speedway, hinting at Lexus’s imminent return to the high-end sports car market.

Rendering of the new Lexus supercar has already emerged

The rendering of Lexus’ new supercar has already been uploaded. Its overall appearance is based on the Lexus Electrified Sports Concept car, which was unveiled in 2021. The front has a design that resembles McLaren, and on the side, aero parts are installed so that the air that enters the front air curtain can cool the brakes and wheels and then escape to the rear.

A design that matches the front has been applied to the rear, and the tail lamp is melted into it. The muffler is placed large in the center. It features a much sleeker and lower height than the previously produced LFA.

The new LFR may feature a V8 engine instead of the V10
It could also be available as an electric vehicle

While the previous LFA was equipped with a V10 engine, the newly developed LFR will likely be equipped with a V8 engine. This is because it must meet the emission standards that have changed. High-performance vehicles launched these days rarely come out with anything higher than a V8 engine due to emission issues.

It could be launched as an electric vehicle model. When the Lexus Electrified Sports Concept was revealed in 2021, Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda mentioned that it was the spiritual successor to the LFA. It is said that the zero-to-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time is less than 2 seconds, and the driving range on a single charge is 700 km (435 miles). However, since the electric vehicle market is currently in a slump, it is possible to change the strategy and launch it as a hybrid.

Test vehicles are being captured consistently
The official launch is expected in 2026

The forthcoming Lexus supercar test vehicles have been frequently spotted on international circuits. Currently referred to as the Toyota GR GT3 Concept, this model is slated to enter production under the Lexus brand, with a projected release in 2023. Consequently, the production version is anticipated to be named the Lexus LFR.

In terms of competition, the Lexus LFR will face off against high-end sports cars like the Mercedes-Benz SL63 and entry-level supercars like the Lamborghini Huracan and Ferrari 296 GTB. The industry eagerly awaits how the new Lexus supercar will distinguish itself in this competitive arena.
