Jeep’s Family Car Grand Cherokee
Makes a Comeback as the 2026 Model
What’s Inside the Grille?

Spy shots of the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee prototype have surfaced, showing that the brand’s flagship family SUV is preparing for a return. Originally introduced as an upscale successor to the Cherokee, the Grand Cherokee has built a legacy since its production in 1993, with the fifth-generation model debuting in 2021.

After a quiet period, Jeep hinted at a new model in November 2023, when Stellantis announced its Detroit plant would handle the production of the next-generation Grand Cherokee. Several spy shots have since emerged, and with recent images showing the front heavily camouflaged, it seems the launch is fast approaching.

Same Muscular Build, But New Technology Spotted

The 2026 Grand Cherokee prototype maintains the familiar muscular build that Jeep fans love. However, the gap between the body and wheels appears more streamlined, giving the vehicle a more natural stance than the current model. While the grille remains hidden by camouflage, two new cameras and sensors are visible, signaling upgrades in driver-assistance technology.

The rear design looks largely unchanged, with dual exhaust tips still in place, although the mufflers seem to have been repositioned lower. The final design of the exhaust system could change before the official launch, but the overall look seems consistent with past models.

Inside Peek: Luxury Upgrades and a Hybrid Powertrain

While the exterior changes appear minimal, Jeep seems to have focused its efforts on the interior of the new Grand Cherokee. Though the overall layout resembles the current model, the materials and finishes have been upgraded to offer a more premium feel. A 12.3-inch infotainment display is at the center of the dash, and additional storage space has been incorporated. Subtle updates to leather trim and ambient lighting are expected, though more detailed interior shots will be needed to confirm these changes.

Under the hood, the new Grand Cherokee is rumored to offer a turbocharged 2.0L GM-T4 inline-four engine paired with an electric motor, producing 375 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. This would replace the existing model’s V6 3.6L Pentastar engine and V8 HEMI options, and the current mild-hybrid system.

Towing Power and Enhanced Driver Assistance

The new powertrain system is expected to tow up to 2,720 kg(5,952 pounds) and drive up to 40 km(25 miles) in pure electric mode. Jeep developed a hands-free driver assistance system in late 2023, and the next-generation system that will replace it will be applied to this model, so the front grille is equipped with a camera. The rear fender camera has also been changed.

Jeep’s new family car, the Grand Cherokee, is scheduled to be launched in 2026, and the release price has not yet been revealed. The current model is the 2022 model, and the cheapest model has dropped to about $43,000. Since it was initially launched at around $58,500, the new Grand Cherokee is expected to be released at a slightly higher or similar price.
