The electric vehicle (EV) era is accelerating, with traditional automakers steadily expanding their EV offerings. Tesla, a pioneer in the EV industry, continues to lead the charge, introducing cutting-edge vehicles such as the Cybertruck and robotaxis. Now, Tesla is set to add another impressive model to its lineup in 2025—the second-generation Tesla Roadster.

Tesla’s current portfolio includes the Model S and Model 3 sedans and the Model Y and Model X SUVs. With the Cybertruck already rolling out in markets outside the U.S., anticipation is building for the return of the Tesla Roadster, which will be a significant addition to Tesla’s range of high-performance electric vehicles.

A Long-Awaited Return: 2nd Generation Roadster
Debut imminent after concept reveal in 2017

The Tesla Roadster is historically significant as Tesla’s first production model, released from 2008 to 2012. Based on the Lotus Elise, the original Roadster set the stage for Tesla’s rise in the EV industry. After a long hiatus, the second-generation Roadster is poised to make its official debut, marking a dramatic evolution from its compact roots.

Tesla has emphasized that the new Roadster will shift from its original compact design to a grand tourer concept, offering a more spacious and luxurious experience. The sleek, voluminous exterior seen in the 2017 concept reveal highlighted this shift and raised expectations for what’s to come.

Record-Breaking Performance
0 to 62 mph in 2.1 seconds, top speed of 249 mph expected

While specific performance details remain scarce, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has teased astonishing figures, including a 0-62 mph acceleration time as low as 1 second. Although official specifications have yet to be confirmed, Tesla Korea’s website lists the Roadster’s acceleration at 2.1 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 249 mph (400 km/h).

The Roadster is also expected to offer a maximum driving range of 621 miles (1,000 km) on a single charge. It will likely feature all-wheel drive and seating for four, providing a high-performance, practical electric supercar that could redefine the market.

Pre-Orders Open for 2025 Launch
High expectations for Tesla’s flagship performance EV

Tesla has already opened pre-orders for the Roadster. Interested buyers can reserve their vehicle with a deposit of $40,304, though Tesla has not yet disclosed the final price or exact launch date. Once released, the Roadster will face stiff competition from models like Porsche’s Taycan Turbo GT, another high-performance electric vehicle.

Though Tesla’s more affordable models, like the Model 3 and Model Y, remain central to its success, the Roadster represents a high-performance milestone for the brand. While it may not match the sales volume of Tesla’s sedans and SUVs, the Roadster will be a flagship model, showcasing Tesla’s technological prowess and engineering excellence.
