Mid-August: The Sweet Spot for Summer Getaways Revealed!

koreaherald Views

Graphic NewsA recent survey on summer vacation trends reveals that mid-August is the hottest time for travel, with most people opting for a long weekend getaway. The PMI survey, which polled 1,000 Korean adults about their vacation plans for 2025, sheds light on spending habits and consumer attitudes.

When it comes to budgets, most vacationers are planning to shell out between 200,000 and 400,000 KRW (150 to 300 USD) per person. The next most popular range is 400,000 to 600,000 KRW (300 to 450 USD). Interestingly, a significant chunk of respondents – mainly 30-somethings and 40-somethings – are ready to splurge over 1 million KRW (750 USD) on their getaways. Meanwhile, younger travelers are keeping it thrifty, with budgets under 200,000 KRW (150 USD).

While the majority of folks are sticking to last year’s spending levels, some are gearing up to spend more. Why? Blame it on inflation, the lure of fancier digs, and the irresistible call of overseas adventures. On the flip side, a smaller group is tightening their purse strings, citing the financial squeeze from rising prices and interest rates.

This survey paints a picture of savvy vacationers playing it cool in uncertain economic times. They’re walking a tightrope between treating themselves to some much-needed R&R and keeping their wallets in check.
