MANILA, Philippines, July 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Yutong Bus (Yutong, SHA: 600066), a global leader in commercial vehicle manufacturing, recently conducted the C12PRO Fuel Saving Challenge. The event took place on a 524-kilometer (326-mile) round-trip route from Manila to Baguio City, a crucial corridor for passenger transport and tourism in the Philippines. Under real-world conditions, the challenge aimed to evaluate the fuel efficiency of the C12PRO, a 12-meter long-distance luxury coach. It addressed three major issues facing the country’s passenger transport sector: skyrocketing fuel prices, persistent extreme heat exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, and diverse, challenging road conditions.

The route comprised 100 kilometers (62 miles) of mountainous roads, 360 kilometers (224 miles) of highways, and 64 kilometers (40 miles) of urban streets. The vehicle carried 22 passengers and a 600-kilogram (1,323-pound) counterweight. Throughout the test, outside temperatures soared to 35 degrees Celsius (95°F), while the air conditioning maintained a comfortable 20 degrees Celsius (68°F), reflecting typical operating conditions in the region.

The C12PRO consumed a total of 143.55 liters (37.93 gallons) of fuel, achieving an impressive overall fuel efficiency of 3.65 km/liter (8.60 miles per gallon). This represents a 12% improvement over its predecessor. Performance varied across different driving conditions, with the vehicle averaging 4.39 km/liter (10.30 mpg) on highways, 3.60 km/liter (8.47 mpg) in urban areas, and 2.97 km/liter (6.98 mpg) on mountainous terrain.

The C12PRO is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to boost fuel efficiency and performance. Its intelligent computing platform utilizes real-time road conditions and a comprehensive road map database covering over 100 countries and regions. Yutong has developed a proprietary bus industry road map database that swiftly generates power configurations tailored to specific operating conditions, resulting in approximately 2% fuel savings.

Another innovative feature, Yutong’s intelligent temperature control system, uses ambient temperature and load data to optimize engine cooling. Incorporating waste heat recovery and smart fan control, this system enhances combustion and further reduces fuel consumption by 2%.

Powering the C12PRO is a next-generation diesel engine platform, designed for high efficiency, low speed, and high torque. With a B10 life of 1.8 million kilometers (1.12 million miles) and 1900 Nm (1,400 lb-ft) of torque, this powerplant delivers robust low-end performance while reducing fuel consumption by 3% or more under real-world conditions.

In the coming months, Yutong plans to conduct similar fuel-saving performance tests on the C-PRO series across the Americas, Africa, and other regions. These tests aim to further optimize product efficiency and help global customers reduce operating costs while improving overall efficiency.
