A father has been reported to have attempted to poison his 18-day-old daughter.

On April 14, NBC News reported that a father was sentenced to 50 years in prison for trying to poison his 18-day-old baby four years ago by mixing antifreeze into the breast milk she was to consume.

In October 2020, when the newborn daughter became critically ill and was tested, she tested positive for the substance ethylene glycol. Following this, the father, Curtis Jack, was arrested.

Investigators said, “Jack brought a bottle of breast milk from the baby’s mother who was hospitalized two weeks after giving birth,” and “Not even 24 hours after he gave the breast milk to the baby’s grandmother, the baby fell into a critical condition suspected of poisoning.”

The South Fulton Police Department, who was in charge of Jack at the time, revealed, “Jack admitted to putting antifreeze in his newborn daughter’s milk to avoid paying child support.”

They continued, “During the trial, the state presented testimonies from the baby’s mother, grandmother, law enforcement officers, and medical experts,” and “They also demonstrated how easy it was to poison breast milk.”

According to experts, car antifreeze is highly toxic, and even a tiny amount can be dangerous if ingested. Symptoms can include drowsiness, vomiting, kidney damage, and even death.

After Jack’s sentence, the baby’s mother declined to comment but did say, “The baby’s condition is okay.”
