Entertainment Industry Shocked by the Tragic Death of a ‘Parasite’ Actor

TV Report Views

Actor Lee Sun-kyun who was under police investigation on suspicion of drug use has passed away and his agency is currently unreachable.

According to Yonhap News on the 27th, a 911 call was made around 10 AM stating, “My husband left the house after writing a note that seems like a suicide letter.”

Police who set out to trace him found Lee unconscious in his car parked at Waryong Park in Seoul about 18 minutes after receiving the report. It has been reported that there were items in the car that are presumed to have been used for his tragic decision.

TV Report attempted to confirm the facts with Lee’s agency, Hodu&U Entertainment but received no response.

Lee Sun-kyun has been embroiled in drug use allegations since last October. At the time, he claimed that he was blackmailed and extorted for hundreds of millions of won (equivalent to hundreds of thousands of dollars) concerning the drug case and filed a lawsuit against Ms. A, the manager of the bar in which the drug use took place.

Lee consistently denied the allegations claiming that Ms. A deceived him and gave him drugs. According to a JTBC report, Lee recently refuted Ms. A’s statement during a police investigation stating, “I inhaled it through a straw into my nose but I thought it was a sleeping pill.”

Previously, Lee had tested negative in a preliminary drug test using his urine and a detailed examination by the National Forensic Service using his hair sample.

Meanwhile, Lee debuted in 1999 in the music video for Bizzy’s ‘It’s Okay’ and gained fame through his roles in dramas such as ‘White Tower’, ‘Coffee Prince’, and ‘Pasta’. In 2020, he gained worldwide influence with his role in the film ‘Parasite’ which attracted over 10 million viewers.

Lee has been married to actress Jeon Hye-jin since 2009 and they have two sons together.
