The Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have launched another major attack on the international shipping route in the Red Sea. The U.S. stated that the multinational fleet alliance had shot down all of the Houthi rebels’ drones and missiles.

According to CNN on the 10th (local time), the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated, “At around 9:15 p.m. the previous day, we shot down all two anti-ship cruise missiles, one anti-ship ballistic missile, and 18 suicide drones launched by the Houthi rebels.” They added, “Two U.S. destroyers, FA-18 fighter jets from the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower, and the Diamond, an air defense destroyer of the British Navy, participated in the operation.”

The Central Command also reported, “This attack by the Houthi rebels was aimed at the international shipping route in the southern Red Sea, where dozens of ships are sailing. There are no damaged ships or injuries due to the massive drone and missile attack. This is the 26th attack by the Houthi rebels since November 19 last year.”

The Houthi rebels, who have been supporting the Palestinian armed group Hamas, are intensifying their attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea in protest of Israel’s attack on the Gaza Strip. In response, several shipping companies, including Maersk, the world’s second-largest shipping company from Denmark, have suspended sailing in the Red Sea and chosen the Cape of Good Hope route in South Africa. The Houthi rebels warned, “We will continue to attack in the Red Sea until Israel stops the war,” and “If the U.S. targets Yemen, we will attack U.S. warships.”
