A man in his 40s has been indicted for stabbing and killing his pregnant ex-wife.

On April 23, it was reported that the Criminal Division 2 of the Jeonju District Prosecutors’ Office (Chief Prosecutor Hwang Seong Min) indicted a man in his 40s, who was arrested on charges of murder and attempted murder.

He is accused of stabbing his ex-wife to death multiple times at a shop in Hyoja-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, on March 28.

He is also accused of injuring the victim’s boyfriend, who was at the scene, by wielding a weapon.

At the time, the victim was seven months pregnant.

The police and fire authorities moved her to a hospital, where they saved the fetus through a cesarean section after confirming the deceased was pregnant.

Born prematurely, the rescued newborn is reportedly in poor health and is currently undergoing treatment in an incubator.

The investigation revealed that the man committed the crime because he could not accept that the victim had a new boyfriend. “I went to the store with the reality that my relationship with my wife was truly over,” the man admitted.

A prosecution official said, “We have urgently supported the funeral expenses of the deceased victim and the medical expenses of the newborn,” and “We will thoroughly maintain the prosecution so that the defendant can be punished in proportion to his crime.”
