Kia EV3 GT Line Prototype Breaks Cover, Sporting Sleek Enhancements

Kia EV3 Launch Imminent
GT Line is also to be Released
What’s the Difference from the Standard Model?

The new EV3, set to lower the entry barrier to Kia’s electric vehicle lineup, is expected to be released in the first half of this year and is in the final stages of preparation. The frequency of spotting the EV3 prototype undergoing road tests has been increasing, and various wheel designs and lamp designs for the entry trim have been confirmed so far.

Meanwhile, there’s been a lot of interest in whether the GT Line, which gives off a high-performance vibe, will be included in the EV3 lineup. The real thing has finally been revealed, causing quite a stir. We looked closely at the exterior and interior to see the differences from the standard specifications.

Enhanced Sporty Details
Differentiation Even in Sensor Covers

The YouTube channel Healer TV, which specializes in car spy shots, posted a video on the 5th of a prototype believed to be the Kia EV3 GT Line. Although the car is thoroughly covered with camouflage, we see significant differences in the front and rear bumpers, wheels, and interior. First, look at the trapezoidal garnish of the bumper fascia revealed through the front bumper sensor holes.

While the standard model features a thin black garnish, the GT Line is noticeably thicker. The shape of the cooling duct at the bottom of the front bumper also differs from the standard model. The cover for the radar sensor needed for operations like adaptive cruise control forms a trapezoid. The grill pattern surrounding the sides is a horizontal design, which stands out with a diagonal detail that breaks from the monotony of the standard model.

Same Wheel Size
Interior Also Captured

The wheel size is the same as the standard model: 215/50R19. The 4-spoke-based design is reminiscent of the previously released EV9, Carnival, and Sorento facelifts. Rather than sportiness, it emphasizes a clean image. The rear bumper also stands out with a large garnish, and it’s speculated that differentiating elements have been applied to the lower part.

As seen outside the camouflage, the interior doesn’t differ much. The two-tone color applied to the seats and the mesh-type headrest is the same as the standard model. However, we can see a difference in the perforation pattern on the backrest, and GT Line lettering has been applied. The door trim shape is the same, but a different color will be used for a sporty feel.

Likely to be Equipped with NCM Battery
Expected to be Pricier than Anticipated

Like the first, the second row has four lines of perforations on the backrest. Besides this GT Line feature, finding significant differences from the standard model is challenging. The flat shape of the seat cushion and backrest on the second row has received mixed reactions. While it may be advantageous for a flat trunk floor when folded, the shape may not be ideal for comfortably accommodating passengers.

Meanwhile, Kia is said to have entered the process of determining the auto insurance rate for the EV3, aiming for a release in the second quarter. According to the industry, the domestic model of the EV3 is likely to be equipped with an NCM battery. This is advantageous regarding efficiency and electric vehicle subsidies compared to the previously rumored LFP battery, but the battery cost is about 30% higher. The domestic price of the EV3 is expected to start at the low 40 million won ($33,600), and after the subsidy application, it’s expected to begin at the high 30 million won ($31,700).
